Dear colleagues, friends, and dedicated amateur radio enthusiasts,

We are writing to share important news regarding the operations of our club radio station, 4U1A, located at the Vienna International Centre (VIC). The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNSSS) has notified the management of the Amateur Radio Club of the Vienna International Centre (ARCDXC) of the introduction of stricter internal security protocols.

Due to a major planned infrastructure upgrade and subsequent renovation, access to the club premises by third parties has been temporarily suspended.

What does this mean for us?
Access Restrictions: Much to our regret, 4U1A will be completely closed to outside amateur radio visitors who do not hold permanent UN staff passes for the next few months.

On-Air Operations: However, the club will continue to operate. Our resident operators, who possess the necessary accreditation and building access, will continue to get on the air periodically to ensure the 4U1A callsign remains active on the bands.

QSL Cards: All our QSL card obligations remain unchanged. QSL requests will continue to be processed as usual.

We fully understand that for many radio amateurs visiting Vienna, operating from 4U1A or visiting the club is a long-held dream and a cherished tradition. The ARCDXC team is doing everything possible to maintain close communication with the VIC administration. As soon as UNSSS approves the updated guidelines for guest visits to the club, we will immediately reopen our doors to you.

Thank you for your understanding, patience, and continued support.

See you on the air! 73!

Sincerely,

The 4U1A / ARCDXC Radio Club Team
