Message from the President of ARCDXC
Dear Fellow Radio Amateurs and Friends,
It is a distinct honor to welcome you to the official digital home of the Amateur Radio Contest DX Club (ARCDXC), operating from the Vienna International Centre (VIC) – one of the three global headquarters of the United Nations that maintains its own sovereign postal and administrative identity.
As the President of the club, I am proud to lead a team of dedicated operators who bridge the gap between international diplomacy and the global amateur radio community. Our station, 4U1A, is more than just a collection of antennas and transceivers; it is a symbol of technical excellence and the “UN spirit” on the airwaves.
Our Mission: Beyond the Signal
Amateur radio at the Vienna International Centre has a rich history dating back to 1980. Today, under the banner of ARCDXC, we continue this legacy with a renewed focus on:
-
Global Connectivity: Promoting the ideals of the United Nations through high-level DXing and international friendship.
-
Competitive Excellence: Representing the UN in major worldwide contests, showcasing that technical skill and diplomatic cooperation go hand in hand.
-
Historical Accuracy: We have worked tirelessly to document and preserve the unique legal and administrative status of 4U1A, ensuring its rightful place in the global DX community as a peer to New York and Geneva.
A Unique Territory
Operating from the VIC means operating from extraterritorial soil. This unique status, supported by our independent United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) and international treaties, makes every contact with 4U1A a piece of radio history. Whether you are a seasoned DXer chasing a rare multiplier or a newcomer hearing our signal for the first time, you are connecting with a territory dedicated to peace and international progress.
The Future of 4U1A
We are currently in an exciting era of transformation. By modernizing our station, digitizing our 45-year archive, and engaging in transparent dialogue with international radio organizations, we are ensuring that 4U1A remains a premier beacon of the amateur radio world for decades to come.
I invite you to explore our website, learn about our history, and look for us on the bands. We look forward to hearing your callsign in our log.
73 and see you on the air!
Andrey Fedorov, KL1A / OE1ZZZ President, ARCDXC 4U1A Vienna International Centre
